Under 15 Match Reports

Sunday 9th September 2007 - Tenterden Tigers 6 Kent Magpies 4

Expectation was high despite going into the match with the bare 11 players. However, 16 minutes into the game, the Magpies found themselves 3-0 down as they failed to build on the impressive performance 2 days earlier. They just were not at the races and looked to be in for a torrid match. Louise struck a thundering shot on 28 minutes to get them back into it and could have had a second 2 minutes later, but blazed over the bar keeping the half time score 3-1.

In the second half, it was a far better performance and within 10 minutes of the restart, the Magpies were back at 3-3 as Louise recorded her first Magpies hat-trick with 2 more goals. Unfortunately, we then hit the self destruct button again to concede 2 goals in as many minutes to find ourselves 5-5 behind with a seemingly huge mountain to climb. However, the girls pushed on and with Katie supplying another excellent cross from the right, Louise pounced and made it 5-4. Then came the turning point as Rosie rifled in a shot from the edge of the area, the referee gave the goal, the linesman flagged said there was a Magpies player in an offside position and the goal was then ruled out. Harsh is the polite way of putting the decision that ultimately denied the Magpies the chance to get a point from the game! To add insult to injury, the Tigers then went up the other end and scored a sixth goal.

There are a lot of positives to be taken from the game and the spirit shown by the team to haul themselves back into the game on two occasions was absolutely superb. Let’s build on it for the matches coming up in the next few weeks.
